Strule Arts Centre Hosts Omagh Community Showcase 2013

Following the success and popularity of the project over the past five years, the 2013 event is set to be bigger and better than ever, with fifteen different groups from across the district involved in the extravaganza.

Performances will take place in Strule Arts Centre over four consecutive nights, 10th – 13th April at 8pm, and each night will include a variety of acts and content.

The idea behind the project is to give community groups and local organisations an opportunity to ‘showcase’ their individual and collective talents, in an atmosphere of fun, achievement and togetherness.

This project is part financed by the European Union’s European Regional Development Fund through the EU Programme for Peace and Reconciliation managed by the Special EU Programmes Body.

The various pieces will all reflect the overarching theme for this year’s event which is ‘Connecting Cultures’, and will celebrate the diversity of culture and traditions in the Omagh District Council area.

For the past few weeks and months the participating groups have been rehearsing and fine-tuning each of their acts so that everyone can enjoy and experience a wide diversity of cultural and theatrical presentations.

The groups performing each night are as follows: Wednesday 10th April: Hospital Road Community, Blair Memorial Flute Band, Macca and GK House.

Thursday 11th April: Eye Speak, Mountfield Community, Skyzdalimit, and Focus.

Friday 12th April: Omagh Boys and Girls Club, Knockmoyle Youth Club, Greencastle and Gallows Hill Community Group.

Saturday 13th April: CKS, Rouskey Community and Development Group and Gillygooley Youth and Community Development Association.

People of all ages and traditions are involved in the spectacle which has become an annual highlight for many communities.

Each evening, the participants will be showcasing their talents in music, song, dance, drama, storytelling and much more. Watch your local press for further details of each nights’ programme of events over the coming weeks.

This initiative is being delivered as part of the Culture, Arts and Sports Programme, in a partnership between Omagh District Council, Strabane District Council and Derry City Council.
