Silver surfers go digital with iStory

FEBRUARY saw the launch of iStory - a digital story training programme for the over 50s.

Throughout the past number of months the participants have learned to create Digital Stories with the Verbal Arts Centre.

The `iStory` training programme` was funded by the Arts Council of Northern Ireland and the Atlantic Philanthropies through the `Arts & Older People’s Programme.

Delivered in three areas of Northern Ireland, Belfast, Ballymoney and Derry/Londonderry; the programme enabled the over 50s to come together to create their own digital stories based on themes that were important to their everyday lives.

The participants created their stories using iPads – taking and scanning their own photographs and using the inbuilt camera, voice recorder and software to put the stories together.

Upon completion of the iStory programme the work was exhibited in three venues throughout the Province: The Verbal Arts Centre in Derry/Londonderry, West Bann Resource Centre in Coleraine, and at the Crescent Arts Centre in Belfast.
