Shock as Scaldys' sign is stolen

The sign, which has become an institution in Lurgan, went missing soon after the shop opened this morning.

The placard, which sports a terrifying image of UFC fighting legend Connor McGregor, had been on the pavement outside the barber’s in Church Place.

However sneaky thieves snatched it while staff were busy at work.

Scaldys, which has cut the hair of the rich and famous such as Taken actor Liam Neeson, has become as well known for the sign parked at the traffic lights as for its professional hair styling.

Indeed motorists and passersby always enjoyed the various very funny jokes posted on the sign over the years.

The current sign has a large picture of Connor McGregor with the phrase: “You’d be nuckin futs to go anywhere else.”

However the sign was indeed taken and is somewhere else, much to the angst of the staff.

Owner Paul McCabe said the staff are all ‘devastated’.

“One minute it was there then it wasn’t,” said Paul.

“The staff noticed it gone this morning after putting it out. The staff are devastated as the sign has become part of the family.

“They are all in mourning,” said Paul.

“We just want him home safely.”

We were unable to contact Liam Neeson at the time of writing but many feel that he might have said: “If you are looking for ransom, I can tell you I don’t have money. But what I do have are a very particular set of skills, skills I have acquired over a very long career.

“Skills that make me a nightmare for people like you. If you let my daughter go now, that’ll be the end of it. I will not look for you, I will not pursue you. But if you don’t, I will look for you, I will find you, and I will kill you.”

On the Scaldy’s Facebook page there is a clear warning: “To whomever has STOLEN!! our Connor sign could you please return him...He gets very home sick and is a shy wee lad...But be WARNED! When he does crack up he’ll take your head clean off!!..” When one of SCALDYS staff go to war we ALL go to war!!”
