Segregation, peace walls and the arts at Magee

The International Culture Arts Network Conference is hosted by the Playhouse inpartnership with the University of Ulster.

It will examine how the arts challenge the people and place of Derry and otherconflict or post conflict cities around the world, drawing on national and international practice.

Some of the panels and performances will include: Representatives from ‘Conflict in Cities’, a project which addresses everyday life and the possibilities for transformation in Belfast, Jerusalem and other divided cities; Croatian Artist Natasha Davis will perform ‘Internal Terrains’, using videoscape and soundscape to ask questions around identity, exile and memory and Todd Lester, CEO of ‘Global Arts Corp’, will talk about his experiences of conflict resolution.

Dr Lisa Fitzpatrick, Lecture in Drama at Magee, said: “We are delighted to be in partnership with the Playhouse on this very successful project, which offers staff and students the opportunity to network with visiting artists from around the world, as well as sharing our own research.”

Elaine Forde, ICAN Co-ordinator, added: “The Playhouse International Culture Arts Network has teamed up with the University of Ulster to create a platform for creative dialogue. This event will showcase cutting edge arts and culture as Derry celebrates UK City of Culture 2013.”
