PSNI 'out of time' in assault probe

THE Police Ombudsman's Office is investigating why no one is being prosecuted for the alleged assault of a vulnerable Larne teenager which is said to have been uploaded to an internet social networking site.

Alderman Danny O'Connor claimed the Public Prosecution Service has laid the blame at the door of Larne police for apparently being out of time in lodging a file on the case.

He said he had been told the case was now statute-barred – meaning that after a certain period of time a person cannot be prosecuted.

"It seems crazy that nothing can be done about it," he said. "This assault was filmed and put on Bebo."
