£5.9 million investment for roads

Representatives from Roads Service attended a meeting of Lisburn City Council’s Planning Committee this week to discuss roads issues in the Lisburn area.

Speaking ahead of the meeting, the Minister said: “A wide range of road improvement and maintenance schemes is planned or already complete in the Lisburn City Council area.

“A carriageway widening scheme on the B23 Hillhall Road to enhance sightlines and forward visibility has been completed with further works to improve road safety planned for the A26 Moira Road to provide a dedicated turning area for vehicles turning right from the A26 into Main Street, Glenavy.

“Progress has continued on carriageway resurfacing schemes with 4.3km of carriageway resurfaced in the Lisburn area including completed schemes at Moss Lane Ballinderry, Colinglen Road Lisburn, Groganstown Road and both The Green and Upper Green, Dunmurry.

“The autumn round of Council meetings is a timely opportunity for Councils to discuss potential schemes and priorities,” added Mr Kennedy.

At the meeting, Divisional Roads Manager, Bertie Ellison highlighted a number of improvement and maintenance schemes currently planned or progressed.

Mr Ellison welcomed expenditure on structural maintenance which had allowed the Division to deliver many needed projects including the 4.3km of carriageway resurfacing as well as 2.4km of footway resurfacing schemes in Hillhall Gardens/Ashmount Gardens, Ventnor Park and Clonmore Park.

“I am pleased to note the recent completion of pedestrian measures at Finch Gardens at Redpoll Avenue and Lagmore Dale, Lagmore with further works planned at Harmony Hill/Belsize Road, Bellsteel Road/Brianswell Road, Poleglass, Crumlin Road, Lower Ballinderry and Main Street, Hillsborough,” said Mr Ellison.

“The Safer Routes to Schools programme continues to progress with two schemes programmed for Dromara Primary School and Largymore Primary School,” he added.

Mr Ellison also referred to a programmed traffic calming scheme for Lower Ballinderry village, as well as Gateway Treatment at both Ravarnet village and Stoneyford village.
