£1m spent on consultants

THE Western Education and Library Board (WELB) has spent over one million pounds on consultants since 2007.

In 2007/8 consultants were paid 685,276 and in 2008/9 they were paid 355,300 - the highest expenditure in Northern Ireland - for work carried out in the WELB area. Data on the 2009/10 spend are not yet available.

Whilst WELB spent over 1m over the two years the Southern Education and Library Board (SELB) and the North Eastern Education and Library Board (NELB) did not have any expenditure on consultancy in 2007/8 or 2008/9.

The Belfast Education and Library Board spent 1,079,125 in 2007/8 187,000 and the South Eastern Education and Library Board (SEELB) 130,153 and 70,819 over the two years respectively.
