Probe into use of baton rounds

THE PSNI’s response to disturbances in Carrick in the run up to the Twelfth period is under scrutiny from the Police Ombudsman’s Office.

Two AEPS (Attenuated Energy Projectiles) were fired after trouble spread to the town during a violent backlash to the removal of loyalist flags in neighbouring Ballyclare in the early hours of 10 July.

A number of vehicles were burnt out in the North Road area while police came under attack from petrol bombs and other missiles.

This week the Police Ombudsman’s Office issued an appeal for witnesses to assist investigators.
