Millar responds to McCrea comments

MID-ULSTER Traditional Unionist Voice Chairman Walter Millar in a statement has replied to Ian McCrea's comments regarding his call for Peter Robinson to resign as First Minister.

Mr Millar said that Mr McCrea was questioning his political affiliations in the past with regard to the Ulster Independence Movements but he failed to mention that his party colleague Arts and Cultural Minister DUP MLA Nelson McCausland was also a member at this period of time.

Mr Millar further said in 1998 he opposed the Belfast Agreement as did the DUP but in their quest for power they did a u turn and went into Government with Sinn Fein/IRA in 2007, and this is why he is now in the only anti-agreement party, the TUV under Jim Allister’s leadership.

He further stated that it was noticeable that Mr McCrea hadn’t made mention of Ulster Unionists who had also made similar comments about Mr Robinson in his response but this is not surprising now that the DUP are having talks about a possible pact with the Ulster Unionist Party and the Conservatives.

Mr Millar continued by stating that the PSNI were looking into the financial irregularities concerning Iris Robinson’s dealings and it remained to be seen whether her husband First Minister Peter Robinson would be able to clear his name.

The Mid-Ulster TUV Chairman concluded by saying that Mr McCrea’s suggestion that he was exploiting people’s financial difficulties as a result of job losses for his own political ends is out of order as in 32 years employment, he said he has, along with many others, been made redundant as a result of factories closing down and is all too aware of the difficulties that this causes.
