Police treating fire near house as arson

POLICE are treating an incident in Knockmore in which a fire was started outside the front door of a house as arson endangering life.

A woman suffered slight smoke inhalation after the fire outside the front door of a semi-detached house in Tirowen Drive last Wednesday night.

She was the only person in the house at the time of the incident, but police say she managed to escape uninjured.

Officers say that a bag of rubbish had been set alight close to the property at 11.40pm.

Two appliances from Lisburn Fire Station and one from Cadogan Fire Station attended the incident.

Lagan Valley Alliance representative Trevor Lunn condemned the attack.

Mr Lunn said: “This was a despicable incident. Those who carry out such acts must be brought to justice. My thoughts are with the person in the house at the time as this must have been a very traumatic ordeal.

“Anyone with information on this incident should contact police immediately to assist them with their investigation.”
