Police dog chases down men fleeing Coalisland RTC

A police dog has been praised for its efforts in chasing down two men fleeing a crash in the Clonoe area.

Rook, who along with his handler, was reported to have followed the males across fields in the Lisnastrane Road area of Coalisland.

Police said a 27-year-old man was arrested following the alleged incident, after reports of a one-vehicle RTC at a roundabout on the Moor Road.

A police spokesperson said: “Just before 6.45am on Thursday 6 October, police received a report of a one vehicle RTC near a roundabout in the Moor Road area of Coalisland.

“Police attended and two men made off across fields in the Lisnastrane Road area. “A police dog was tasked and several items of evidence were recovered as a result which may link a suspect to possible offences.

“A 27-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of driving when unfit through drink or drugs and driving while disqualified. He was later released on police bail pending further enquiries.”

Rook was praised on the PSNI’s Dungannon Facebook page for his part in the operation.

They said: “Well done to Rook who assisted us with his handler recently following a report of a crashed vehicle!

“Rook tracked two males who made off across fields following the crash. This led to the recovery of several items of evidence which may link a suspect to the offences.”
