PICTURE GALLERY: Armoy PS staff and pupils raise £1125 in aid of Haiti earthquake

THE pupils and staff of Armoy Primary School have raised £1125 for the people of Haiti. The children held a sponsored silence, and a table quiz and raffle were held in the school for the parents and staff.

The sponsored silence carried out by the children raised an impressive 576, with the remainder raised by the Table Quiz and a raffle. Twenty teams took part in the quiz. Raffle prizes were donated by friends and family.

Principal Julie Neill said that it was an amazing effort on behalf of the children in particular.

"For the children to have raised such a large amount of money in a short time is an amazing achievement and I am very proud of them, she said."

Mrs Neill thanked all those involved in raising the money to help the disaster stricken country.

"I would like to thank all the staff and pupils for the effort they put in. Also the family and friends of the school who have donated not only to the quiz and sponsored silence, but also donated the prizes for the raffle. Special thanks to William Hoey and Beth Dooey, who chaired the table quiz, and the PTA who provided supper on the night."

The money raised is due to be presented to the chosen charity, Christian Aid, at the end of the week.
