‘We all have a role to play in Covid battle’

Residents across Mid and East Antrim have been urged to continue to play their part in the fight against the coronavirus.

The appeal was issued to local residents by the Mayor, Cllr Peter Johnston after 63 new positive cases were identified in the borough from August 22 to August 24.

This brought the borough’s total number of confirmed cases to 617 - the third highest region across Northern Ireland.

In a direct appeal to the community, the DUP representative said: “This remains an extremely concerning time for our citizens and I appeal to everybody within our community to adhere to the Public Health Agency and Executive guidance.

“We all have a vital role to play in battling this pandemic, which has caused so much devastation right around the world.

“It is so important we all continue to adhere to the public health guidelines and take every precaution to protect ourselves and our loved ones.

“I also encourage everybody to download the StopCOVID NI app, which alerts users if they have been in close contact with other users who have tested positive for Covid-19. Council continues to do all we can to support our community at this time.”
