Murray has selected a wide range of pieces for the exhibition, ranging from the Chaine Tower, the famous Lanyon Fish sculpture in Belfast and country singer Willie Nelson.

The 62 year-old has lived in the area all his life and says he has had a deep love of art from an early age.

“My drawings always seemed to gravitate towards the natural world around me, not a wonder, being blessed with some of the best scenery in the world on my doorstep,” he says in an introduction to the exhibition.

“I’ve had a great interest in pen and ink since discovering the work of Dublin artist Harry Clarke, who I studied at college. I tend to use a ‘pointillist’ technique, which entails a very fine tipped pen putting small dots on the paper. I find this style lets me get some fantastic detail in my works.”

Murray also enjoys working in chalk and charcoal - a very different medium, which requires a much more abstract style.

All of his pieces are original drawings and, unlike others, he does not produce prints, so every piece is different in some way.

Murray’s artwork ranges from local scenes such as the Black Arch and The Stern at Larne Harbour roundabout to more general pieces featuring birds such as the wren, and even a chalk on black card detail of the country singer Willie Nelson.

The exhibition can be viewed via the Larne Museum and Arts Centre official website, which provides a link to the facebook page for the museum.
