Originally from the Straid area, she came to Glynn village at the age of seven when her father got a job at the nearby Magheramorne Cement Works and has lived in the village for most of her life.

Meta married Magheramorne man Sammy McSeveney, who also worked in the cement works, and the couple lived for a short time there before moving to Glynn. The local woman, who is well-known in the village, lived there until a few years back when she moved to Clanrye Residential Home in Larne.

But in addition to her family, friends in Glynn did not forget her on her birthday, sending flowers and cards.

And the staff at the residential home also pulled out all the stops to ensure Meta had a day to remember.

The celebration was much lower key because of Covid and her only visitors on the day were sister-in-law Peggy of Glynn and nephew Robert Hall of Ballycarry, who were both Covid tested before they called with her.

The telegram, flowers and good wishes from so many people made up for the current restrictions and Robert’s wife Christine said that Meta was “over the moon.”

“She got her telegram from the Queen and was highly delighted,” Christine said, “It was a lovely surprise to get flowers and cards from the Glynn community and people in the village,” she added.

Meta was also congratulated by the Bishop of Connor, Rt. Rev. George Davison and by her friends in the parishes of Glynn, Larne and Raloo. There was also a greeting on social media from Dean Stephen Forde, who was previously in the parish.

Meta joined St. John’s Parish Church in the village after her marriage and a greeting from the church said “Meta is a much loved and respected member of St. John’s, Glynn where she attended faithfully for many years until she moved to Clanrye Private Residential Home”.

The local community group also added its congratulations to the centenarian, who has never smoked or touched alcohol throughout her life, was a keen gardener when in Glynn and a very house-proud and fashionable lady.

In fact one thing which she misses these days is not being allowed to wear high heels since her move to Larne!
