Ordered to leave gay niece alone

A man accused of harassing his niece has been bound over to keep the peace.

Joseph Donnelly, of Westway, denied harassing the woman between March 19 and May 27.

However, the charge was withdrawn after the 52-year-old agreed to be bound over in his own recognizance of £500 to be of good behaviour and keep the peace.

The Court heard there was a ‘homophobic’ aspect to the case and there would be an application for a restraining order.

District Judge Barney McElholm granted this application. The order states that Donnelly must not pester, harass, threaten or intimidate the complainant for two years, particularly in relation to her sexuality.
