The Larne branch of Cancer Research UK has raised over £1,000 in the past three months for the charity.

Between September and November 2014, the group raised a total of £1125 through a variety of events.

In September, the group’s annual sponsored walk took on a canine theme as dog lovers and their friends were invited to join in with the “Best Paws Forward” walk, raising £633 in the process.

The group’s committee chairperson Pat Ritchie commented: “We would like to thank Olive Nelson of Barking Mad dog grooming salon for offering the prize for the dogs taking part.

“This was won by means of a free draw and the winning ticket was for Jack Russell Archie belonging to Caoimhe McKay.

“We would also like to thank ASDA for their gift voucher which was awarded to Fiona Dudas’s Parson terrier Pixie for best-dressed dog.

“We would also like to thank Mulhollands’s Funeral Parlour for covering the cost of the free tea and coffee at The Prom cafe for all participants and supporters.”

In November the group raised £332 by holding a charity pub quiz in Larne Tennis and Bowling Club. Pat continued: “Our heartfelt thanks to Michael Campbell for setting the quiz and supplying prizes, and to everyone who supported us on the night. We would also like to thank Carrick man Scott Christie, an employee of Larne firm Wincanton, for donating £160, which was the proceeds from his recent sky dive.”

Pat said that all the money raised would be used to fund the research for better treatments and diagnostic tools for cancer. She concluded: “The work of Cancer Research UK is totally dependent on charitable funding and may we thank everyone for their continued support.”
