NW200 Stormont date

The Regional Development Committee at Stormont is to invite representatives of the North West 200 to give evidence to members on how the needs of the event can be better met by changes in legislation.

The matter was raised by SDLP Assembly Member John Dallat who described the cancellation of the race last Saturday as ‘a disaster’.

He said: “I am pleased that the committee have unanimously agreed to invite representatives of the North West 200 to a future meeting so that we can hear at first-hand what they believe is needed to overcome the challenges presented by inclement weather which led to the cancellation of the races in two of the last three years. The future needs of the event must be discussed through the democratic process provided by the Northern Ireland Assembly. The Committee has an important role to play in deciding how its future can be addressed.”
