NW jobless total still the highest

THE North West still has the highest number of unemployed people in Northern Ireland.

The latest government figures reveal that 7.3 per cent if the working population in the Strabane and Derry City Council areas are claiming Jobseeker's Allowance.

Almost 7,000 people are out of work in the two council areas.

The North West has topped the unemployment tables since the latest economic crisis began.

Limavady is placed third highest with 7.1 per cent or 1,527 out of work.

Around 49,000 people are unemployed across Northern Ireland.
