Newbuildings issues

ROADS Service chiefs are to monitor traffic issues in the Newbuildings area, according to a local councillor.

Following contact with the Roads Service, Alderman Mary Hamilton (UUP) has reported that a number of issues relating to traffic management in the Newbuildings area are to be monitored and kept under review.

“For some time now on-street parking has been a problem in Foyle Crescent. Nowadays many families have a car but when the houses were built there was limited provision for parking and as a result residents have no alternative other than to park outside their homes,” she said.

“There have been cases of cars being damaged as large vehicles try to negotiate their way along a narrow street and when emergency vehicles need access the problem becomes more serious.

“There is also the problem of cars racing at speed along the main roads raising the obvious risk of accidents and resulting danger for pedestrians.

Residents have raised these concerns with me and as a result Roads Service has undertaken to monitor the situation.

“I do not regard this as the end of the matter however and will be following up my enquiry with a request for prompt and effective action.”
