The renewal work and upgrade has been carried out with the help of the European Union’s PEACE III programme money which he helped secure.

The major programme of work came to fruition after Cllr. McFalone submitted a detailed proposal on shared space and the need for enhanced play opportunities at Maghera outdoor play-park that incorporated additional facilities that can be used by children living with disability.

“The inclusion of additional equipment at Maghera play-park will facilitate children with various abilities. Through innovative design, the inclusive play equipment offers children with different abilities and needs an opportunity to actively play side-by-side with their family members and friends,” he said.

“Throughout this project I have engaged in consultation with council officials, ensuring facilities at the park are imaginative, bright and attractive. I want to thank council officials at Comhairle Ceantair Mhachaire Fíolta who have facilitated the programme of works. Providing the additional play equipment within the park will allow all our children but especially children living with disability big opportunities to explore play in an exciting and fun way.”

Cllr McFalone added: “The play-park has reopened for public use.. its refurbishment and upgrade is welcomed by all living in our community as well as the young families who visit Maghera for shopping etc.

“It will be a great resource for the many families who visit Maghera when availing of services offered by Riding for the Disabled at The Fort Centre.

“The incoming period will also see the redevelopment of soft landing surfacing at the park.

“Maghera now has a first-class outdoor play provision that promotes and is genuinely a shared space, meeting the needs of all children and offering a diverse range of play-based experiences. I am very happy to have played a lead role in such positive community development.”.
