Plans to transform Inver Park into a modern 1150 seater stadium have been given the green light.
Larne Football Club is seeking to embark on a £4m redevelopment of the facility, which would include a 3g pitch laid at the ground, as well as the creation of a new all-weather training facility covered by a dome, and a new stadium with enhanced seating.
The sports dome element of the project was approved earlier this year, and last Thursday, Mid and East Antrim Borough Council unanimously backed the club’s application for the new stadium.
Principal planning officer Gary McGuinness said the development was contained within the club and “was unlikely to have an adverse impact on the surrounding areas”.
Larne FC is hoping to secure funding for the ambitious scheme from the Department of Culture, Arts and Leisure (DCAL), which has set aside a pot of £36m for football stadium development.
