Needs ‘something good’ to come from report to avoid a jail term

Thirty five year old Jerome McCann, of Union Street, Lurgan, was also told last Wednesday at Craigavon Magistrates Court that he was guilty of ‘grossly offensive’ behaviour.

McCann had admitted a charge of disorderly behaviour at Drumellan Gardens in Craigavon on June 30.

The court heard that police went to the scene where there was a house party with loud music being played.

The defendant and another person started to shout at the top of their voices.

They used abusive language while singing Republican songs.

McCann was warned about his behaviour but laughed and told police to f--k off.

He also used other offensive language and told an officer he knew who he was.

District Judge, Mr Mervyn Bates, said this was ‘grossly offensive behaviour’ but was not going to deal with it because he was considering a custodial sentence.

“I’m not having this sort of behaviour,” he added.

Judge Bates adjourned the matter until October 30 so that a pre-sentence report could be obtained.

“If you have any chance of avoiding custody, something good has to come out of that report,” he told McCann.
