Minister to cut first sod of new project at Gaelscoil Eanna

Education Minister John O’Dowd is expected in Glengormley today, Thursday, November 11, where he will cut the first sod for a new accommodation scheme for the borough’s Irish medium school, Gaelscoil Éanna.

The new £500,000 scheme will provide the school with system built accommodation that includes three classrooms, a resource space, office and staffroom.

The scheme is being managed by Iontaobhas na Gaelscolaíochta (InaG) - The Trust Fund for Irish Medium Education (IME), with funding provided by former Education Minister Caitríona Ruane to tackle poor accommodation in the Irish medium sector. The Accommodation Fund of £2m was approved by Education Minister Caitríona Ruane in February 2010 to provide system built accommodation schemes that are fit for purpose for Irish medium schools that are in their viability period but do not yet qualify for capital funding from the Department of Education. The new school building is due to be completed before St Patrick’s Day 2012.
