March sunnier than average

WHILE many may think last month's weather was dismal, official figures from Armagh Observatory show that March was only slightly wetter and colder than average, but also slightly sunnier.

The total rain/snow fall measured was 83.7mm (3.3 inches), which is about 60% higher than average, and is attributed to a heavy snow that fell in just three days towards the end of the month.

The average temperature fell slightly also, sitting at 5.7 degrees Celsius (42.3 Fahrenheit). It was the warmest on March 12 and 21 at 14.3 Celsius and the coldest on the 8th at -7.2 Celsius.

However, with 124.1 hours of sunshine it was slightly over 20% sunnier than the average March.
