Man arrested in police murder attempt probe

Police have arrested a man in connection with a murder attempt on officers on the Loughshore towpath in March.

A device exploded on the popular path close to Hazelbank on Saturday, March 9 after officers had been lured to the area.

Three officers were on the towpath when the bomb exploded and senior police chiefs said the attack was a deliberate attempt to kill.

A subsequent security alert closed part of the M5 for almost 24 hours.

On Thursday morning, a 39-year-old man was arrested and questioned by detectives from the PSNI Serious Crime Branch investigating the incident.
