Local St John volunteers show off their first aid skills

MEMBERS of Abbey Q Division of St John Ambulance were celebrating recently after a magnificent performance at the Eastern Area First Aid Competition.

Cadets and team leaders from the New Mossley-based unit produced an impressive display to pick up seven trophies.

The trophy winners were as follows... Cadet Uniform Cup (team): 1st place - Jessica McQuiston, Anselm McDonnell and Ieuan McDonnell; Cadet Priory Challenge (team): 2nd place - Jessica McQuiston, Anselm McDonnell and Ieuan McDonnell; Best Cadet Team Leader: 1st place - Fionntan Beatty; Cadet Male Individual: 1st place - Anselm McDonnell; Adult Female Individual: 1st place - Allison Gray; Eastern Area Leadership Award - Allison Gray; Eastern Area Cadet of the Year - Margaret Lyons. Other awards went to... Cadet Male Individual: 2nd place - Ieuan McDonnell; Cadet Female Individual: 2nd place - Margaret Lyons; Cadet Priory Challenge (team): 3rd place - Fionntan Beatty, Margaret Lyons and Aoife Sands; Adult Priory Challenge (team): 3rd place - Steven Haggan, Allison Gray and Margaret McConnell.

Several of the local trophy winners will now go through to the Northern Ireland finals of the St John Ambulance First Aid Competition, which is scheduled to take place at Knockbracken Healthcare Park on March 27.

Meanwhile, Abbey Q Division are currently on the look-out for more adult and cadet members who are interested in receiving basic or more advanced training in First Aid.

The unit meets in Mossley Methodist Church, Manse Way every Monday night from 7:45pm - 9:15pm for cadets (10 -18 years) and 7:45pm - 10pm for adult members.
