Local mum's Larne car-jack terror

Detectives in Larne have since re-issued their appeal for information in relation to the crime, which occurred at just after 10.25pm on November 4.

The shocking incident saw one male get into the passenger side of the parked car while another male pulled the 22-year-old female driver out.

They made off in the blue Audi A4, turning off on the Inver Road. The young woman was assessed by the Northern Ireland Ambulance Service at the scene and was left badly shaken.

The two males, believed to be aged in their late teens, were of slim build and were wearing dark hooded tops and scarves over their faces.

Posting on social media, the victim described the car-jacking as “definitely a night I don’t want to remember.”

“Unfortunately I have to remember this, car was found burnt out!” she added.

“What satisfaction they got from this is beyond me, now I’m without a car and I have three young children who depend on me getting them to school!”

In response to concerned well-wishers, the woman said she was “so angry and upset” and was “just glad my kids weren’t in the car.”

East Antrim DUP MLA Gordon Lyons described the car-jacking as a “worrying incident.”

“This is a very serious crime that has left a young woman badly shaken and it must have been a very scary time for her and will also make people fear for their safety,” he told the Times.”

“I would encourage anyone with any information to go to the police.”

Junior Minister and DUP East Antrim MLA Alastair Ross added: “This is a truly shocking incident and I’m sure that the young woman is very shaken.

“I condemn those responsible for this incident.

“I would appeal to anyone with information to report it to the police immediately.”

Detective Constable Loreen Glenn stated: “We believe that the vehicle was driven from Main Street to the Inver Road then along the Shane’s Hill Road and onto the Shillnavogy Road where it was abandoned and set alight.

“I would ask anyone who saw the car being driven between Main Street and the Shillnavogy Road on Friday evening or anyone who has any information which could assist our investigation to contact detectives in Larne on 101 quoting reference 1283 04/11/16 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.”
