Local events being held for dementia awareness week

Charity staff and volunteers will be providing information about dementia and how to live well with the condition at a local coffee and information morning 10am to 12.30pm 19 May 2016, Market House 16 the Square Ballynahinch.

This is an opportunity to drop in to find out more about dementia andAlzheimer’s Society local services. In addition Alzheimer’s Society staff and volunteers will be in Boots at Sprucefield from 11am 20 and 21 May 2016 providing information and support on dementia.

For this year’s Dementia Awareness Week the charity are helping people to face up to dementia and share their worries about the condition which affects 20, 000 people in Northern Ireland.

Barry Smyth Operations Manager for Alzheimer’s Society in North & East Locality, said: “We’d love to see as many people as possible come and see us.

“By openly talking about dementia we hope to tackle the many myths and misunderstandings about the condition and get across that life doesn’t end when dementia begins.”
