Larne Museum and Arts Centre will play host to a local author’s book launch at a special ceremony next month.
The launch of ‘An Islandmagee Schoolin’ will take place on Thursday, March 3 at 7pm. The book, which was written by Islandmagee native, Mrs Pauline E. Bingham, focuses on the education history of the peninsula over the past two centuries.
Readers will hear tales of the schoolmaster who preferred to sleep in a cave and the master who smoked his pipe in the classroom and was known to ‘clout’ his pupils on the head with his tobacco knife when they gave the wrong answer. The title is her second book to be published, following ‘Green Pastures: A Childhood at the Gobbins in 1900s’, which was launched in 2014.
Admission for the event is free, but places are limited and must be booked in advance. To secure your place, contact Larne Museum on 028 2826 2443.
