Larne YMCA celebrates charity fundraising result

The cheque for £147.50, which was presented to Kaleidoscope’s Mandy Ferguson, was raised by Trevor Robinson through sponsorship for his Larne half marathon entry.

In total Larne YMCA’s half marathon runners collected £649.50 for charity which will be shared between The Dogs’ Trust, Myeloma UK and Kaleidoscope.

The YMCA is currently continuing with its packed programme of community work. Its Survive and Savers and NPLQ members recently used a realistic choking vest during their training in how to dislodge a foreign body. The group are now more confident in their ability to deal with a choking incident.

Additionally, its After Schools club recently welcomed international volunteers from Greenhill YMCA for an afternoon of fun and games. This allowed members to meet the volunteers who come to Greenhill for a year’s experience in outdoor activities and gave the visitors an insight into the activities of a local YMCA.

This week, the YMCA’s sports hall will be out of use for a few days as a new heating system is being installed. It is hoped that the new system will be operating within a few days.

The building still has a pine scent after being used for Christmas decoration sessions with Inver Garden Centre’s Gary Bissett. Gary came armed with greenery, baubles and tinsel and the YMCA’s empty plastic bottles were transformed into unique decorations for the Christmas table. Larne YMCA would like to thank Gary and Inver Garden Centre.

The YMCA also hosted a recent information evening which examined issues affecting young adults with disabilities and considered possibilities for projects and activities in the Larne area.

Presentations by Roddensvale School, Kaleidoscope NI and Acceptable Enterprises were informative and prompted useful discussion.
