Knockmore saved - but axe hovers over Dunmurry

THERE were mixed feelings in two local schools this week after the South Eastern Education and Library Board lifted the threat to Knockmore Primary but decided to press ahead with a proposal to close Dunmurry High.

Redburn Primary in Holywood and Ballykeigel Primary in Comber, have also been told the board would like them to close by the end of August next year.

The principal of Dunmurry High said the decision to push for its closure was very upsetting for the staff and community.

But the mood was totally different at Knockmore which is now to be allowed to stay open, although it may lose some of its special needs units to other schools, closer to pupils’ homes.
