Knockmore rail line is set to open by 2018

Councillors were given assurances by Translink that it’s “in their vision” to re-open the rail line between Lisburn and Antrim. William McCrea MP praised those within Translink “who finally listened to the voice of those representing Crumlin”.

“I have been consistently vocal on the virtues of reopening the line,” Mr McCrea said. “The present services in public transport are not adequate for the community and this reopening is a priority for the development of the area.

“I trust that the suggested date of 2018 will be brought forward, as this wait only impedes essential progress for the area.

“Many of us as elected representatives campaigned for this news. I thank Mr McGreevy, general manager of Rail Service at Translink, for his attention but ask him not to close his mind to further development including connection to the airport.”

A spokesperson for Translink said, “Reopening the Antrim-Knockmore line is detailed in Translink’s corporate plan as one of the options within the ‘Future railway investment’ consultation paper produced in Jan 2013 by DRD.”
