Knockmore Primary rolls out the red carpet its students

With a red carpet supplied by Stephen Moore Carpets and a special ‘Herbie’ Volkswagen Beetle from Isaac Agnew Boucher Road, a taste of Hollywood descended on Lisburn for one night when forty families enjoyed a night of glitz and glamour. The children who attend school’s film club decided to run the event as an Oscar themed night to mark the real Academy Awards.

All those attending were encouraged to dress up in their best Movie Star outfits and most got really into the spirit of the event.

The children then announced the five nominees and gave some background information - ET the Extra-Terrestrial, Mary Poppins, Honey I Shrunk the Kids, Short Circuit and The Love Bug.

The whole school had been invited to vote for their favourite movie during the week prior to the event and the voting was very close.

Having a movie star like Herbie paid off as The Love Bug won.

After enjoying an interval with popcorn and juice, the awards were given out for Best Dressed Adult, Best Dressed Child, Nicest Smile, Kindest Pupil And Best Hair Style, which were all voted for on the night.

The evening finished off with a free prize draw. Prizes ranged from a great selection of Volkswagen goodies donated by Isaac Agnew, two free Family Swim passes for the LeisurePlex, two cinema tickets from Lisburn Omniplex, Costa coffee goodie bag, Devils’ Delights dessert delivery, Express facial vouchers from Tan City, T-shirts and sharpeners and much more.

“We were so pleased that the event was so well supported by the local community and our school families and we trust that they all enjoyed the free family event,” said school principal Pamela Jones.

“We would like to thank all the local businesses for supporting our extended schools programme.”
