It’s panto time (Oh no it isn’t!
Oh yes it is!) in Island Centre

As the nights get longer and the weather gets colder, what better way to chase away those winter blues than with Lisnagarvey Operatic Society’s annual Christmas pantomime.

This year, ‘Jack and the Beanstalk’ will be brought to the Island Hall stage between Saturday December 6 and Saturday December 13.

Full of festive fun and frolics, this family favourite is sure to delight kids and adults alike.

When Jack, who is played by Claire Cranston, has to sell his beloved cow Buttercup to raise funds to save the family farm, he is tricked by a mysterious wizard and ends up exchanging Buttercup for a paltry bag of beans. In despair, his mother Widow Bumble, played by the irrepressible Andrew Devonshire, throws the beans out of the window in a fit of rage. However, when they awake the next morning, much to their surprise, a huge beanstalk has grown in the garden.

Jack must climb the beanstalk and defeat the terrible giant to find fame and fortune; win the girl of his dreams Sally, played by newcomer Rachel Boal, who happens to be the daughter of the nasty village Squire (David Gray); save Buttercup; and turn around poor Widow Bumble’s misfortune.

Help is at hand though as Archie and Nellie, the village idiots expertly performed by Gillian McQuade and Andy McKnight, the Blue Fairy, brought to life by Judith McKee, and the Rainbow People, whose leader is performed by Lauren Molloy, all come to Jack’s assistance along the way. As ever, the panto is full of song, dance, jokes, and of course a healthy dose of audience participation. This will be a night of entertainment not to be missed.

The show runs from December 6 until December 13 at 7.30pm, with a 2.30pm matinee on each of the Saturdays.

Tickets are priced £10 and are on sale now from the Box Office on 9250 9254 or online at www.islandartscentre.com.
