Is your home insured for a harsh winter?

As temperatures continue to drop now is the time to make sure you are prepared for the winter season and examine your home insurance to see whether you have the necessary protection in place in case of another harsh winter.

For the past two years Northern Ireland has experienced the most severe winter weather conditions for 30 years. Last year in particular saw householders experience difficulties with boiler damage, frozen pipes, and flooding.

Age NI Enterprises, the commercial services arm of Age NI, is urging older people to prepare for winter as part of the charity’s Spread the Warmth campaign.

Ron Warwick, general manager of Age NI Enterprises, said: “The Spread the Warmth campaign is about making winter better for older people.

“Many people in later life can feel like prisoners in their own homes during extreme weather conditions, isolated and cut off from the rest of the community. Combine these feelings of isolation with flooding or burst pipes and you have a recipe for a very miserable winter for those in later life.”

Ron added: “Age NI Enterprises is urging older people to check their home insurance to ensure that they are adequately covered for winter. Age NI Enterprises offers home insurance designed with the over 50s in mind, that can be paid by monthly instalments at no extra cost (0% APR Representative).

“The home insurance, is provided by an award-winning insurer, Ageas Insurance Limited[1], and offers a choice of buildings or contents cover, or both, a 24-hour domestic emergency service, ‘new for old cover’ and an identity theft helpline.”
