THE Western Health and Social Care Trust (WHSCT) has been highly commended as a Placement Provider of the Year by the University of Ulster.

The Trust’s Social Services Training Team was highly commended after being shortlisted to the final three out of 150 employers from a range of sectors in Northern Ireland.

The awards are presented by the University of Ulster in recognition of employers’ outstanding contribution to training the future workforce.

The Western Trust was highly commended in the Public Sector Employers section and the Western Trust’s Social Services Training Team was praised for its contribution to training the next generation of social workers.

After receiving the award on behalf of the Western Trust, Paul McCafferty, Principal Officer for the Social Services Training Team said: “The Western Trust provides placements to social work students in a variety of settings that include children, families and vulnerable adults.

“We are proud of our connection to the University and with our partnership that enables us to produce highly trained social workers.”

Paul continued: “I would like to thank all Western Trust staff who contribute to supporting social work students at both strategic and operational levels.

“There are many people who contribute to practice learning within the Western Trust and I would like to think everyone who has supported this vital role.”

Western Trust Executive Director of Social Work, John Doherty added his congratulations to the Social Services Training Team: “The recognition of the Trust’s role and partnership approach to develop highly trained social workers is an important achievement.”

“I would like to especially thank the Western Trust’s Social Services Training Team for all their hard work and dedication. This Team does an incredible job supporting student and qualified social workers’ professional development and I’m delighted their efforts are recognized in this award.”
