‘I am tormented’ claims resident

Stanley Gardner, 56, who is medically retired, claims youths are “tormenting” him.

He says groups of teenagers and younger children have caused damage to his Ashcroft Way home and car with stones.

Mr Gardner explained: “This has been going on for years. I couldn’t sit and watch TV as I’m afraid of the window coming in around me.

“Some of the children are from the area but others are dropped off by their parents.”

“I have spoken to some parents and most agreed with me but others threatened me.”

He continued: “I have two grown up children and one grandson and I know children like to play but I’m not giving off about wee ones.”

“I’ve tried speaking to police but nothing is being done.”

A PSNI spokesman said reports of anti-social behaviour had been received on numerous occasions.

He said on July 7 2009 police received a report of children running around the area causing a nuisance. “Police attended just over an hour later but no-one was in the area at that time,” he said.

The spokesperson continued: “In January 2010, police received a report complaining that a library vehicle parked outside a house, mainly on Thursday nights.

“At approximately 3.05pm on March 21 2011, a caller requested police call with him about ongoing incidents with children in the area, who were reported to have played football in his garden. Police attended - there was no evidence of this or evidential information given. Police spoke to a number of parents in the area at the time.”

The spokesman added: “At approximately 9.25pm on Saturday October 19 2013, police received a report that youths had thrown something at a window. Police spoke with the caller within an hour and the youths had gone. Extra patrols were put in place in the area.”

He added: “At approximately 8.35am on Saturday February 18 2014, police received a report that youths had thrown stones at a window the previous evening, causing a crack to it. Police called at the address. “
