Hillhall project gets £20,000 funding

THE ‘Lisburn Youth Connect’ project has recently received a grant of nearly £20,000 from the Lisburn-Castlereagh European Union funded PEACE III Partnership.

This project, which is being delivered by the Hillhall Regeneration Group, will bring together 30 disengaged young people from the Hillhall, Hilden and Maze areas of Lisburn to implement a good relations programme which will challenge sectarianism and racism, encourage active citizenship and promote the benefits of partnership working. All the project participants will receive an OCN Level 1 qualification in Community Relations.

As part of the Active Citizenship element of the project, the Mayor of Lisburn, Alderman Paul Porter recently attended the Laganview Enterprise Centre to give the young people a talk on local politics and the importance of the vote.

Mr Porter said: “It was great to see so many young people who are taking an active interest in local politics. These young people represent the future of Lisburn City and it is imperative that their voices are heard.”

As well as themed group evenings on relevant issues, the project also involves a series of team building events and a cross-border residential. The project will culminate in a Showcase and Presentation evening where the young people will present a video diary of their journey through the project and receive their qualifications.
