Glengormley group calls it a day after raising more than £370k for charity

The Glengormley Support Group of Northern Ireland Chest Heart and Stroke (NICHS) met recently to mark 30 years of voluntary service in support of the charity’s vital work.

Over the past three decades the active group of committed volunteers has raised £373,000 to support the work of the charity, which is dedicated to improving the health of people across Northern Ireland.

The money raised has been used to run a number of practical services such as stroke clubs, as well as supporting lifesaving research into chest, heart and stroke conditions.

Over the years, the work of the Glengormley group has enjoyed huge support from local people and businesses. Particularly memorable events have included the annual sponsored Loughshore walk and the annual ten pin bowling competition at Glengormley Sportsbowl - an event attended each year by the Mayor and supported by teams from local community groups and business organisations.

The group has thanked everyone who has assisted and supported its work on behalf of chest, heart and stroke patients and their families over the past 30 years.

Although the Glengormley Group has decided the time is right to cease its formal fundraising activities, the work of NICHS goes on.

In Northern Ireland there are over 200,000 people living with a chest, heart or stroke condition and these illnesses cause a staggering 40 per cent of adult deaths.
