The project makes up part of the Town Parks Concept Plan following extensive public consultation.

Mid and East Antrim councillors recently approved the relocation and rebuild of the new fully accessible toilet block which will be located next to the car park.

It is expected work will be completed by early next year.

The Mayor, Councillor Peter Johnston, said: “This is a welcome investment for Larne Town Parks and locals and visitors to the area.

“This is evidence of investment by council to improve the facilities in our towns which is key to our tourism plans.

“As restrictions begin to ease following Covid-19, we hope to welcome people back to Mid and East Antrim to rediscover all that we have to offer.”

This was discussed by group party leaders, including local representatives Gregg McKeen, Gerardine Mulvenna and James McKeown.

Further work is in the pipeline to enhance heritage aspects within the park, improvements to accessibility, car parking arrangements and seating.

The park consists of 8.3 hectares and contains three tennis courts, a 5-a-side soccer pitch, children’s playground, public toilets, shelters, bandstand, mature trees and tree lined walks, woodland, ornamental shrubs, flower bedding and large flat areas of open grass for games and play.
