MEA Council’s Economic Growth and Development committee has voted to recommend that council accept DSD funding of £829,000 for Larne Public Realm scheme at a meeting on April 20.
The committee also voted to recommend that council accept a tender for the work of £1,399,833.33, subject to verification of insurances and financial standing.
The Larne Town Centre Public Realm project is one of the key schemes in phase one of the Larne Town Centre Regeneration Masterplan.
The scheme will involve the provision of stone kerbs, stone paving, semi-mature tree planting and the supply and installation of street furniture, signage, street lighting and feature lighting.
Additionally, Broadway is to be developped as a flexible events space. Council will own and manage the open space area at Broadway when the transfer of ownership from DRD Road Service/Transport NI is completed.
It is anticipated that the grant funding from DSD will be available in the 2015/2016 year as well as a £200,000 contribution by Council.
Mid and East Antrim Borough Council will be wholly responsible for the remaining £854,000 required, the majority of which will be required in 2016/2017.
The construction period is planned for 40 weeks, excluding breaks for Christmas or works by other statutory providers. It is not yet known when work will commence. The recommendations will now go before full council for ratification.
