Drive for cleaning proficiency

THE Chief Executive of the Western Health and Social Care Trust has said the introduction of a new training programme for staff involved in cleaning shows the Trust's ongoing commitment to tackling Healthcare Associated Infections.

The Western Trust is now recognized as a centre of training for the Cleaning Operators Proficiency Certificate which is accredited by the British Institute of Cleaning Science.

"The role of all health and social care staff and indeed the public in good hygiene practice is very important. Support Services staff have a particularly important role to play in the cleanliness of our hospitals and other Trust facilities. Through this training programme the Trust is promoting the ongoing raising of standards of cleaning through education."

Will Doran, Western Trust Assistant Director for Facilities Management, said: "Now that the Western Trust is a recognised training centre means the Cleaning Operators Proficiency Certificate can be delivered directly to Support Services staff in the West.

"Being able to deliver this training locally means it can be done efficiently and to a wide group of staff. The training will help to raise and improve standards, make our services more efficient and give recognition to staff for the important role that cleaning has in the Trust and confidence for the public who use our services."
