Do you know an unsung hero?

THE SEARCH is now on for men, women and children from the Ballymena area who capture the Spirit of Northern Ireland by selflessly serving others and being an inspiration to us all.

Specsavers has, for the third year running, teamed up with the Sunday Life and UTV to launch the search for Northern Ireland’s 2013 unsung heroes.

Specsavers is calling for ordinary people in Ballymena who are doing extraordinary things to help others.

This unique search will give recognition to those whose good deeds have previously gone unnoticed.

The grand final for the Spirit of Northern Ireland Awards with Specsavers will take place on Friday, June 14, at the five-star Culloden Estate & Spa resort in Holywood.

All guests will be in for a real treat as Flash Harry will headline the event. UTV’s Frank Mitchell and Pamela Ballentine will host the evening, along with many local celebrities supporting the event.

The winner of the overall Spirit of Northern Ireland Award, with Specsavers, will receive return flights to New York, courtesy of American Holidays, to thank them for their contribution to society.

There are four awards in total: the Specsavers Overcoming Adversity Award; the Sunday Life Unsung Hero Award; the U105 Young Person’s Award and the overall Spirit of Northern Ireland Award.

Store director of Specsavers in Ballymena, Adrian Murdock, says: ‘We had an absolutely wonderful night last year. It was a fabulous community-orientated event with a serious message and Specsavers is delighted and proud to be the sole sponsor of the Sunday Life Spirit of Northern Ireland awards.

“Specsavers in Ballymena is committed to the local community and these awards help us celebrate individuals who are often overlooked. We are looking for ordinary people who have done extraordinary things, helping others through their compassion, courage or devotion.

“Many people reading this will already know the kind of people we’re looking for, who enrich our community through their involvement and tireless work. We want to celebrate their contribution and give them the recognition that they deserve, so I’d encourage people from Ballymena to nominate anyone who has overcome adversity or made a difference in the community.”

To nominate your candidate explain in 50 to 100 words why you think that person should win.

Entry forms are available from Specsavers, Ballymena. The closing date for all entries will be at midnight on May 3.
