A young woman, whose death the PSNI is treating as ‘suspicious’, has been named locally.

She was named as Kerrie King and was aged in her late 20s.

It is understood she has relatives in NI and in Scotland.

Her body was found in the Carrickdale Gardens area of Portadown on Tuesday.

A man in his 50s was arrested and taken to Musgrave Custody Suite in Belfast.

Yesterday a PSNI spokesperson said: “Detectives are investigating the circumstances surrounding the sudden death of a woman in Portadown reported during the early hours of this morning (Tuesday, February 9th).

“A post mortem examination will take place in due course to determine the cause of death.

“A 50-year-old man has been arrested as part of the investigation and has been taken to Musgrave Custody Suite.

“There are no further details at this time.”

Upper Bann DUP MLA Jonathan Buckley said the death happened in the Carrickdale Gardens area of Portadown’s Tandragee Road.

“I understand that a 50-year-old man is in police custody following the sudden death of a woman in Portadown that took place in the early hours of Tuesday morning.

“First and foremost, my thoughts are with all the family and friends of the deceased at this time.

“This is a tragic and shocking incident for the area and I would implore anyone who may have information to come forward to the police.”

MP Carla Lockhart said: “This is very sad news. A life lost, and those left behind will mourn that loss.

“I know the community, which is in shock at this tragedy, will give the PSNI the space to conduct their investigations.”

SDLP Upper Bann MLA Dolores Kelly has expressed her condolences following following the sudden death of a woman in the Portadown area.

The Policing Board member has urged anyone with information to come forward to police.

Mrs Kelly said: “My thoughts and prayers are with the family of the woman who has tragically lost her life in the Tandragee Road area of Portadown. Police have arrested a man and I understand that they have established a line of inquiry.

“I want to put on record my thanks to the officers who are working with the family in these tragic circumstances.

Portadown Councillor Eamon McNeill added: “This is a tragic situation and my thoughts are with the family of the woman who has lost her life.

“I would appeal to anyone with any information to come forward to police to help with the investigation as soon as possible.”-
