Robbery at Largy Road

A young female counter assistant received a small cut to her hand when robbers - one armed with a machete - struck at a local filling station.

Now Detectives in Ballymena are appealing to the public for any information they may have about the armed robbery at the station in the Largy Road area of Ahoghill on Wednesday 26th November.

Detective Chief Inspector Catherine Magee who is leading the investigation, said:“Two men, wearing white disposable coveralls and armed with a machete and a suspected firearm, entered the filling station at around 9.40pm and forced two staff members to hand over a sum of money.

“The two men then made off on foot from the scene. A female staff member received hospital treatment for a small cut to her hand following the incident.”

The Maxol station, which has an associated shop, is well used by motorists driving between Randalstown and Portglenone and any one who may have been in the area around the time of the robbery or who saw any suspicious activity in and around Largy Road over the past few days is asked to contact police in Ballymena.

Detective Chief Inspector Magee added: “Police enquiries into the incident are ongoing and I would ask anyone with any information which may assist us with our enquiries to contact CID in Ballymena on 101. Alternatively, information can also be passed anonymously to police through Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”
