PSNI praised for swift action

The swift actions of police officers in Foyle have been praised by the local commander following an emergency incident in the city on March 18th.

Officers from a local Tactical Support unit were on patrol when they were flagged down by a woman who was very obviously in distress. Her husband had taken ill while driving their car and had crashed into a wall. The officers found the man unconscious at the wheel and immediately radioed for an ambulance however the man’s condition was deteriorating so the officers began CPR.

A call was also put in to have the nearest police-owned defibrillator unit brought to the scene but fortunately the officers were able to get the victim breathing again just as the rapid response paramedic arrived.

Foyle Area Commander Chief Inspector Jon Burrows said: “Fortunately these officers were in the right place at the right time and had the skills and training to deal with a difficult situation. We have kept in contact with this gentleman’s wife and understand her husband is being looked after in hospital. We send them our wishes for a speedy recovery.”
