Hundreds of notices issued in east Antrim as police appeal for public’s support

Hundreds of enforcement notices have been served by police in the Mid and East Antrim area since the pandemic emergency commenced.

Figures for the borough from the PSNI show 100 COV1 penalty notices have been issued between March and December 27.

In the same period, officers have also served a total of 45 COV2 notices - six prohibition notices to licensed premises and 39 for restriction of gatherings in a private dwelling.

Furthermore, there were two COV3 enforcements (£1,000 fine) for failure to isolate.

Following the replacement of COV1 with COV4 (with fines starting at £200), 76 penalty notices have been issued, while three COV5 penalty notices have been issued to a business and/or premises for breach of the regulations (starting at £1,000 to a max of £10,000).

The latest figures also include 97 Community Resolution Notices.

Meanwhile, Police in Mid and East Antrim have appealed for the public’s support.

In a statement, the PSNI said: “New Covid-19 restrictions are now in place. From 8pm to 6am there can be no indoors or outdoors gatherings of any kind.

“Please act responsibly and help us to stop the spread of this disease.”
