Drink driver was going fishing when detected by police

A Dungannon man was going fishing after an argument in his flat when he was caught drink driving.

Appearing before East Tyrone Magistrate’s Court to plead guilty to driving with excess alcohol was Gerald Hunter, 38, from Castle Hill.

The court heard how he was spotted driving erratically on Cookstown Road on the early afternoon of October 8th.

“He was going fishing after having a disagreement with another person in his flat,” Ms Victoria Riddle, defending, said.

“He made a foolish decision as he had been drinking. He apologises to the court.”

District Judge John Meehan handed down a fine of £200 and an eighteen month driving disqualification but refused access to the course as he provided no licence.
