Arson attack officer and family ‘valued members of Larne community’
The police officer targeted in an arson attack yesterday (Thursday) has been described as a highly regarded member of the Larne community.
Three cars were destroyed and the Glenarm Road property was scorch damaged during the early morning incident.
The officer, his wife and daughter, who were in the house at the time, were not injured.
Condemning the attack, East Antrim MLA Roy Beggs said: “I know the police officer concerned personally who has served the local Larne community for some time. He is highly regarded by all for his community policing work on behalf of the local community.
“He and his family are also valued members of the Larne community. The attack on them is an attack on the local community.
“I would urge any member of the public who has any information that might assist the PSNI identify those who carried out this criminal action to pass the information to the police or the confidential Crimestoppers 0800 555 111.”
Police say they are keeping an open mind as to the motivation behind the attack however a primary line of enquiry is that criminal elements may be responsible.
Speaking yesterday, Detective Chief Inspector Dunny McCubbin added: “We are investigating this as an incident of arson. This was a completely reckless attack which could have had serious consequences.
“Thankfully, no injuries have been reported in what was a terrifying ordeal for the officer and his family.” Click here
